The Bedouin city of Rahat in the Negev, Israel, won first place in the Peres Center for Peace and Microsoft competition, "Starting Up Together." This program was created to help motivated and passionate future entrepreneurs acquire the skills necessary to turn their dreams into reality.
The first of its kind, this multicultural program focuses on entrepreneurship and aims to make the innovation ecosystem more accessible to young entrepreneurs in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The project presented by the city of Rahat was chosen as the "best initiative" for preserving public property through the implementation of educational and awareness programs and the use of technological means to prevent the destruction of public property in the city.
The initiative, with a budget of 3 million shekels, includes a series of socio-educational projects in one of the parks recently damaged by vandalism, to make it clean and safe.
In a second phase, the project aims to promote technology as a "preliminary identification" mechanism to streamline the procedure for monitoring public spaces.
"We congratulate Rahat for this great achievement. This initiative will bring about a major change in the field of public domain preservation, awareness, and strengthening the sense of belonging to the city. We thank all the participants who presented this initiative, including the youth center employees who represented the city of Rahat at this major event, Aisha Abu Freih and Islam Abu Medigam," said Foad Al Zeadna, director of the city's community center.
Rahat continues to multiply initiatives and programs to advance the city in the fields of culture, education, and entrepreneurship.
